Virginia's PBS TeacherLine Courses Frequently Asked Questions
  Are all courses online?
Yes. There is no physical classroom for you to travel to. Courses are conducted online, so you “attend” classes via your computer—either from your home, your classroom, or your district computer lab. Courses usually run on a six-week schedule with start and stop dates, and while there are no specific 'classroom hours,' you will work according to a weekly schedule that is set by your facilitator.

Who teaches the courses?
Virginia's PBS TeacherLine “instructors” are known as “facilitators” who are educators who guide participants through a Virginia's PBS TeacherLine course. Since our courses are designed to be community-based learning experiences, the course facilitator is there to assist you, encourage enlightening dialogue between you and your peers, and evaluate your work in order to provide valuable feedback. All PBS TeacherLine course facilitators have a Master’s Degree in Education or a related field of study, as well as subject matter certification and expertise.

What's the difference between a National course and a Virginia course?
Virginia's PBS TeacherLine courses are taught by Virginia instructors and are open to Virginia educators only. Virginia standards and issues are addressed. National PBS TeacherLine courses are taught by instructors from various states and are open to educators from across the country. In both cases the basic course content is exactly the same.

Can I get credit for a course?
Graduate credit is available for all Virginia's PBS TeacherLine courses through Adams State College.  This is an added cost to the general course price; however, educators may receive this free of charge if their region or district provides funding for courses. Educators that do not receive free courses from their district, may be able to apply with their district for reimbursement for gradaute credit fees. Please check with your district's staff development department or instructional technology personnel for more information.
