  Virginia's PBS TeacherLine- For Teachers

PBS TeacherLine provides PreK–12 teachers across the country with the high-quality, standards- and research-based professional development that teachers like you need to improve your skills to enhance your students' achievement. And with PBS TeacherLine, trained, certified facilitators ensure that you'll get the most out of your online learning experience.

Why Teachers Choose PBS TeacherLine

Convenient, Flexible and Easy to Use

  • Learning online is as easy as sending and retrieving email.
  • Weekly assignments can be completed whenever and wherever it’s convenient (no scheduled log-in times).
  • Six-week courses (about five hours a week) fit into your busy schedule.
  • Self-contained course environment means no additional books or software to buy.

Direct Classroom Applications

  • Courses relate directly to curriculum and classroom activities, including designing projects or lesson plans incorporating course materials.

Collaborative Learning Environment

  • Online discussions allow teachers to share content, ideas, and instructional strategies, across your state or across the country. Reflect on your own beliefs and exchange solutions to problems in text, graphic, and interactive forms.
  • Trained facilitators guide discussions, encourage participation, and provide ongoing feedback.

Engaging, High-quality Content

  • All courses are developed in collaboration with the leading national educational organizations (NCTM and ISTE), so every course is standards-based.
  • Content developed with multiple learning styles in mind includes the rich use of technologies such as video, audio, and interactives, to make learning come alive.
  • Every course (including math, reading/language arts, and science) features specific tools for integrating technology to teach covered topics in the classroom, as well as tools to support delivery of instruction to diverse learners.

Lead to professional recognition

  • Courses help teachers obtain graduate credit, and professional development points (PDPs) or continuing education units (CEUs).
  • Certificates and facilitator feedback provide documentation needed by districts to validate credit.

"How-tos" for Teachers

How to enroll in a course:

  1. Click here.
  2. Find a course that fits your needs and click 'View Details / Enroll'
  3. Use a check to pay for your course, or, if your district is paying with a purchase order, print this purchase order form and email/fax the completed form to Virginia's PBS TeacherLine at 757.451.6853. You may also pay for your course using a credit card by calling 757.889.9454.

How to get approval for credit:

Do you want to be sure your district will approve a PBS TeacherLine course for CEU/PDP credit before you take a course? Print the course description and the syllabus of the course, and take them to your district for review. Your state or district may require additional forms, so check if you are not sure.

How to access your course(s):

You may access your course two days before it is scheduled to begin. During this "orientation period," you may access the course to familiarize yourself with the course structure and environment. The discussion board, however, will not be available until the first day of the course. This orientation period is optional; you are not required to access the course before the course start date.
